OwlBeSatReading & The Order of the Books

Aka The Bookshelves of Order & Chaos

Like all you bookworms, bloggers and reviewers, I often have this loose plan of what to read next. I’m usually thinking about my yearned for NetGalley 80% badge, my R2R’s direct from authors and publishers as a priority, and most importantly, what I actually WANT to read next.

So, we’re in the second week of January and my reading plan has become a bit chaotic to say the least. There’s books and e-books dotted here, there and everywhere, it’s making me feel annoyed and disorganised. I’m starting to feel in a right ol’ quandary as to what to pick up next. So, I’m going to get a bit more focused and organised, take full advantage of my lovely new diary, pens and stencils, and MAKE A PLAN.

Time to regain some ORDER! ORDER AMONGST THE SHELVES!!

To start with, I’ve put a note on my contact page so authors can see that I am currently not receiving review copies. I need to catch up! I have a NetGalley request ban put in place, I have a feedback ratio of 76% and that 80% badge is within spittin’ distance, and maaaan I want it.

So, without further ado, here is my January/February reading plan. And this time, no off-piste moments, I’m sticking to it like llama saliva to a blanket.

Have you a disorganised backlog? Does your TBR shelf need a talking to? Let me know what your plans are and I’ll lend you my enormous flaming hammer. Or something.

Hi! Iโ€™m Lisa the Book Owl. I spend so much of my spare time reading, so I decided to start a blog all about it. I mainly read Historical Fiction, Horror and Literary Fiction, particularly Domestic Noir style LitFic. This is my little blog where I share all things bookish ๐Ÿฆ‰

  1. I need to set myself up a TBR pile and STICK to it. I’m currently reading NOS4A2, and then I will read The Chalk Man (I will, I will!), from there I haven’t a clue, but I might make that my mission tonight – create a TBR pile to follow for the month! I might even write a blog post about it ๐Ÿ˜›

    1. I feel so much better now I’ve got some kind of structure to my reading plan. I was starting to get in a right flap cos I was finding books shoved everywhere, a bind (The Doll House) had fallen down the side of my shelf and my NG, oh god my NG!! I have a sense of peace with it all now! ๐Ÿ™ Will be finishing Zenka tonight, so onwards and upwards ๐Ÿ˜‰ Looking forward to your post about it, if you decide
      to do one! ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. So doing the same right now! Started the year in a panic because I feel like I overcommitted to reviewing for January titles – so Iโ€™m putting a pause on any more blog tours or review copies and a self-imposed Netgalley request ban – until Iโ€™m caught up! Currently reading like a demon and really enjoying finally getting round to all the things Iโ€™ve been meaning to read for a while.

    1. Thanks Nicki ๐Ÿ˜Š I HAD to get a llama gif in there, as soon as I typed ‘spittin distance’ I was like, llama time!! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Good on you for sticking to your plan, it is so hard though! Especially with all these Twitter giveaways lately, I keep getting side tracked!๐Ÿ˜ฎ

    1. It all looks impressive spread out all pretty, but oh my god you should see me with those bloody stencils! It like I’ve got the chronic DT’s, they’ll take some practice. I’m not sharing my hand written ramblings online, not because they’re private or anything, but because they look shit! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ I think a spreadsheet is perfect and a lot less stressful! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜‚

  3. Please can I borrow your flaming hammer?! ๐Ÿ˜‚ I’ve got SO much I want to get to this year but hopefully now I’ve started The Mount TBR challenge I’ll be able to get my backlog down a bit ๐Ÿ˜•

  4. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Course you can!๐Ÿ˜‚ Good luck with The Mount TBR challenge, I think everyones in TBR attack mode at the moment. Perhaps if I stopped writing random blog posts and wasting time on Twitter I’d read so much more! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜‚

  5. Zenka! – I shall keep an eye out for your review but I think I added it to my tbr a while back because the blurb read very interesting… I hope it’s going good for you?

My reading plan is quite loose… hehehe… I just see if I have 1 or 2 NetGalley reads to fit in before publishing date- these would get priority, everything else will fit in between depending on the mood… I do keep a little notebook with all the books I have promised to review outside of NG, and if they are yet to be published I tend to prioritize by their publishing date as well… ๐Ÿ™‚

Good luck with your January reading plan ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. I’m enjoying Zenka, it’s certainly different and very funny in places! ๐Ÿ˜‚ I’m nearly finished, so review will be soon ๐Ÿ˜€ I needed a decent diary and notebook because I want to do the same as you and sort things date-wise. My book order on this post is like this: (I’ll do it shorthand, Direct From Author/Publisher or NetGalley ๐Ÿ˜‰) DFA, DFA, NG, DFP, NG, DFA, DFA, DFP. It’s quite well organised, but once I smash through this lot, I’m SO looking forward to reading something on my shelf that I actually bought!! ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ˜‚ Hope your reading plan goes well, loosely. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

      1. Perfect- I was hoping Zenka was going to be a bit humorous as well… !

hahahaha, yeah, I know what you mean about reading the bought books… It was one of the reasons I decided to close myself for review requests… It’s just a lot more enjoyable when you can read what you want, when you want without having to worry about deadlines and rocksolid given promises ๐Ÿ™‚
        Hahahaha…. Cheers!
